Special Bulletin

As previously notified in Special Bulletin 2011-04, San Bernardino County has passed an ordinance requiring fire sprinklers in manufactured homes and multi-family and multi-family manufactured homes installed in the unincorporated areas over which it has jurisdiction.

In a meeting with fire officials, CMHI requested an exemption for retail inventory. We suggested that the date of manufacture of the home be the trigger that determines if manufactured home is requested to have fire sprinklers.

In response to our request, I have received letter from the SBCFD confirming the following:

  1. Fire sprinklers are required in all manufactured homes for which the date of manufacture is on or after January 14, 2011 and the home is installed in an unincorporated area of San Bernardino County over which the County has jurisdiction.
  2. San Bernardino County does not have jurisdiction over land-lease communities (M/H parks). Therefore fire sprinklers are not required in m/homes installed in m/home parks in the unincorporated area of the county.
