The California Department of Housing and Community Development has issued a notice that it proposes to amend and adopt the following:

  1. Wildland Urban Interface Standards (WUI)(Source: Notice of Proposed Rule Making pg.3)CMHI supports this amendment, this change means that dealer inventory manufactured prior to September 1, 2008 will not be required to be retrofitted to the WUI Standards.“The proposed amendments to the WUI Standards will require all new MH, Mobilehome, MFMH or CM units manufactured after September 1,2008, to meet the WUI Standards, and exempting all used units. Additionally, the mandate that a permit to install was to be obtained prior to December 31, 2010, will be removed”
  2. Carbon Monoxide DetectorsHCD’s proposal for the installation of Carbon Monoxide Detectors will require the following:

A. Manufacturers: will be required to install carbon monoxide in new manufactured homes or multifamily manufactured homes with tow (2) dwelling units manufactured on or after March 1, 2012, containing either a fuel-burning appliance(s) or designed for site-installation of an attached garage.

B. Dealers: will be required to install carbon monoxide detectors in all new and used inventory of manufactured homes, mobilehome or multifamily manufactured home with two (2) dwelling units containing either a fuel-burning appliance(s), attached garage or designed for a site-installed attached garage prior to the sale effective March 1, 2012.

C. Carbon monoxide detectors must be installed pursuant to the requirements of Section R315 of the California Code of Regulations, Title 24, Part 2.5, California Residential Code (CRC)

This section permits the use of battery operated carbon monoxide detectors.
